The goal of our Overseas Outreach Ministry is to help our far-away neighbors have their basic life essentials as best we can.
Outreach to Ecuador – 2009
This year’s Overseas Outreach Ministry initiative invites our congregation to donate gently used toys for a newly-established child care center in Ecuador.
The Illinois South Conference of the United Church of Christ has enjoyed a long-established global church partnership with our brothers and sisters in Christ in the United Evangelical Church in Ecuador. This partnership is currently building the Lisa Haida Memorial Child Care Center in Romerillos, a small village high in the Andes Mountains. This early childhood center will serve 30 – 50 children between the ages of six weeks and five years, providing both childcare and pre-school education for all the young children of the village.
Our contributions of toys will be taken to the children of Ecuador — “Lisa’s Angels” — by a delegation of members from the Illinois South Conference United Church of Christ.
Members of St. Paul are eligible to participate in mission trips to Ecuador through our continued relationship with the Illinois South Conference of the United Church of Christ.
Outreach to Afghanistan – 2008
Last fall the congregation collected mittens, scarves, gloves, and socks to send to the children in Afghanistan. Through a local military contact, we were assured that the supplies we sent were given directly to the children.
Through St. Paul’s continued engagement with the wider church, we fulfill our call to be the Body of Christ, helping to heal a hurting world.
